Surpetis
A surpeti or sruti box is a simple drone instrument. As with a harmonium, the sound is produced by pumping air through a metal reed. This instrument is much simpler than a harmonium. There is no keyboard, simply stops that open the air to different combinations of reeds. It is ideal as an accompaniment to chanting, singing or modal playing by a bowed or blown instrument. Its size and easy portability are big plusses.
