Special Supplementary Classes:

The following classes are highly recommended as supplements to the classes taught by Ali Akbar Khan and Swapan Chaudhuri. These are taught by the College's outstanding staff of Assistant Teachers.

TAL: offers information about the rhythmic structure of Indian music basic to the understanding and practice of vocal, instrumental, and tabla study. The Tal class begins on September 22nd and continues for seven weeks on Mondays from 5:30-6:30 pm. Teacher: TBA

SITAR WORKSHOP is a class that focuses on sitar technique and is encouraged for all beginning and intermediate sitar players. Class meets every Thursday from 10:00 – 11:00 am. Teacher: Peter Van Gelder

REVIEW CLASSES: the main purpose is to cover material taught in the master classes. They give students a chance to slowly work out lines and to ask more questions. The review classes also go over exercises and technique useful to any level student.

Private Lessons by guest artists and the College's assistant teachers are also available throughout the session and are scheduled and paid for in the College office. These lessons are held at the College and must be arranged in advance with an office administrator and instructor so that a classroom can be reserved for the lesson. The cost for each one-hour lesson is $45.

Mentor Program provides students with close personal attention from the college’s assistant faculty. The student will receive two private one-hour lessons per session in which the mentor will answer any questions the student might have, provide feedback on technique, and focus on strengthening the student’s musicianship skills. A small registration fee of $45 will be charged for this program.

** Please be sure that you sign up for any Special Classes at the time of registration on the first day of the Session. Some classes require a minimum number of students in order to be presented.
